The second and fourth orientational order parameters [Pbar]2, [Pbar]4 of the homologous series of 4-n-alkyl-4′-cyanobiphenyls (nCB, n = 5 ~ 8) in the nematic liquid crystalline state have been determined from the Raman depolarization ratios by the resonance Raman probe method. It was found out that not only [Pbar]2 but also [Pbar]4 exhibits evident even-odd effect when they are compared at the same reduced temperature. For understanding the mechanism of the even-odd effect, a theoretical calculation has been carried out on the basis of the mean field theory of Marcelja, in which the effect of the end alkyl-chain on the liquid crystalline state is taken explicitly into consideration. The observed trend in [Pbar]2, [Pbar]4, nematic-isotropic transition temperature were well reproduced. Detailed inspection of the results shows that the presence of anisotropic molecular field plays an important role in the appearance of the even-odd effect. The anisotropic molecular field produces redistribution of the statistical weight of various conformers in such a way that the end chains of odd-members align better along the direction of the rigid core part than those of even-members.  相似文献

We have investigated the compressive behaviour of closed-cell aluminium foams using a high-resolution X-ray CT. The microstructures of cell walls or Plateau borders in the foams were visualized in 3D using the local tomography technique which is a high-resolution CT method to reconstruct a region of interest within a large sample. The shapes and the 3D distribution of micropores, particles, and regions of solute segregation in the foams are evaluated, comparing the cell walls with the Plateau borders. Under compressive loads, the damage behaviour of such microstructures has been observed using an in situ test rig. It is found that the microcracks were mainly initiated from the cell walls and the micropores with large diameters were also damaged. The crack initiation sites are classified from the results. In addition, a method for non-destructive characterization of elastic and plastic deformation in the foams, which is called a 3D microstructure gauge (MG) method, is presented. Thousands of micropores as markers on each load were automatically matched by the information of those volumes and surface areas. The local strain mapping by the MG indicates that the edges of the micropores with large diameters have large strain under compression and this is consistent with the crack analyses.  相似文献

Magnetic minor hysteresis loops have been measured on A533B-type nuclear reactor pressure vessel steels with various combinations of Cu and Ni contents after neutron irradiation to a fluence up to 3.32 × 1019 n cm?2. A strong compositional dependence of minor-loop properties, which are indicators of internal stress, was found. The properties of high-Cu and high-Ni steel show a large increase in the low fluence regime below 0.4 × 1019 n cm?2, followed by a slow decrease, while those for low-Cu or low-Ni steel show a sudden decrease. The changes are roughly in linear proportion to the yield strength changes. The results were explained from the viewpoint of the formation and growth of Cu-rich precipitates and/or fine scale defects in the matrix and along pre-existing dislocations.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of minor hysteresis loops of compressively deformed nickel single crystals has been investigated in a wide temperature range below the Curie temperature of 628 K. There exist power-law relations between the field-dependent parameters of minor-loops, and their exponents are independent of both temperature and strain after the compressive deformation. These observations indicate the presence of universal power laws in minor hysteresis loops. The minor-loop coefficients of the power laws show a similar temperature dependence of the coercive force, which is quantitatively related to the dislocation density. These properties of minor hysteresis loops are useful for the accurate and quantitative nondestructive evaluation of age degradation in ferromagnetic materials.  相似文献

The formation of grain structures and grain boundary microstructures in polycrystalline molybdenum, produced by thermomechanical processing from cylindrical single crystals with different initial surface normal orientations of ?110?, ?111? and ?112?, were investigated with the objective of controlling grain boundary microstructures. The polycrystalline specimens displayed different microstructures depending on the initial orientation of the single crystal and the deformed microstructure. The recrystallized microstructure was composed of some oriented-grain clusters, in which grains possessing a similar orientation were assembled. The frequency of low-angle boundaries was very high in the oriented-grain clusters. A close relationship also existed between the grain boundary character distribution (GBCD) and the triple junction distribution. Grain boundary microstructures were compared of bcc molybdenum and fcc polycrystalline materials with reference to path-dependent percolation resistance.  相似文献

Diarylethene‐bridged peptides were developed to photoregulate biomolecular interactions. The peptides are made up of diarylethene‐bridged and DNA‐binding regions at their N‐ and C termini, respectively. The two regions could be independently designed and combined as desired. The α‐helicities of the peptides were photoregulated in on/off or off/on manners, and the manner depended on the positions of two ornithine (Orn) residues for cross‐linking reaction at the diarylethene‐bridged region. In the case of the on/off manner, when the diarylethene structure adopted the open form on the peptides, the peptides folded into stable α‐helices. Upon UV irradiation, the diarylethene moiety isomerized to its closed form to destabilize the helical structures. Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) analysis showed that the open isomer strongly associated with a target DNA, as compared with the closed one. When the closed‐form peptide existing in the DNA complex was irradiated with a fluorescent lamp in the middle of the QCM monitoring, the frequency change (ΔF) was enhanced by the diarylethene photoisomerization.  相似文献

Intermetallic Pt(3)Ti nanoparticles are solubilized in water by using a generation-five, hydroxyl-terminated, poly(amidoamine) dendrimer, G5OH, as a post-synthesis surfactant. Pt(3)Ti nanoparticles, encapsulated in G5OH and dispersed over the electrode surface, exhibited a superior catalytic activity toward the electro-reduction reaction of oxygen compared to as-prepared, highly agglomerated nanoparticles.  相似文献

In its element: Zn(2+) at the M7 site of MFI-type zeolites activates H(2), via ZnH and OH species, and leads to Zn(0) species. The Zn(0) species returns to its original state, a Zn(2+) ion, upon evacuation of the zeolite at 873?K (see picture). The formation of the Zn(0) species is supported by DFT calculations.  相似文献
